Lilian Eliëns

The paintings of Lilian Eliëns are inspired by fashion and media images. She uses the most stylized and idealized images that show the trends of today.
Her paintings look bright and very styled. They are transparent and modest but at the same time brutal and erotic.

In her work Lilian Eliëns is not commenting the world but she tries to point the dualities of it; her paintings may show us a beautiful model carrying a gun rather imminently, but at a closer look we notice that the girl clearly doesn’t know how to handle or even hold it. What we see is sensitivity versus desperation.
In her way of painting, transparent though highly layered simultaneously, she strives to underline these contradictions.
